How to Install Fromental Printed Wallpaper Rolls (Pre-trimmed)
This guide is for our rolls of printed wallpaper and does not apply to our bespoke wallcoverings, which require a more specialised approach.
For a quick introduction, you can watch our step-by-step video.
Please note that this video is for the paste the wall method, if you or your installer prefer the paste the paper method, simply follow the written instructions.
1. Inspect Rolls and Plan Your Layout
- First, make sure the wallpaper you received is correct, double check the number of rolls, design and colour against your order confirmation. If you have any concerns, please contact our customer care team before installing.
- Each wallpaper roll consists of numbered panels that must be hung in sequence. They are not interchangeable.
- Refer to the design layout to understand the overall composition and panel seams. Choose an appropriate starting point, ideally near a door or window, where any pattern mismatches will be less noticeable.
- If the wallpaper features a panoramic design with a distinct top and bottom, such as a grass ground with trees, it’s important you decide how you would like the wallpaper to fall on the wall. As the panels may be much taller than the wall, you will need to determine where to cut the design. This may involve cutting the grass ground or allowing the trees to extend off the top of the wall, depending on your preference.
2. Preparation
- Repair any damage to the walls by filling holes and sanding.
- Clean the walls, making sure the surface is smooth and free of imperfections.
- Apply a PVA-based size to the walls, adjusting the thickness according to wall absorbency.
- For optimal results, apply 1000-grade lining paper, especially for lighter wallpapers, to prevent marks from showing through. Lining paper is not mandatory.
3. Pasting and Hanging
Use a premium-quality tub adhesive (pH-neutral, solvent-free, fungicide-protected, light-grade). Avoid self-mix adhesives, all-purpose, or heavy-duty pastes.
Our printed wallpaper can be installed using your installer’s preferred method of ‘Paste the Paper’ or ‘Paste the Wall’, as detailed below:
Paste the Wall
1. Apply paste evenly to the wall, allowing enough for one panel at a time, slightly wider than the roll’s width.
2. Position and smooth the wallpaper using a wallpaper tool. Avoid squeezing paste onto the wallpaper surface.
3. Align seams tightly and smooth with a wallpaper tool. Avoid squeezing paste onto the wallpaper surface.
Keep hands clean and dry. If paste touches the wallpaper, gently sponge it off with a damp, clean sponge while still moist.
Trim the top and bottom edges with a sharp knife, ensuring the wallpaper is firmly adhered. Inspect the installation after hanging 2-3 lengths to confirm there are no faults.
Paste the Paper
1. Lay the wallpaper face down on a clean surface.
2. Apply paste evenly to the back of the wallpaper using a brush or roller.
3. Hang the wallpaper, starting from the top and pressing it onto the wall. Align seams tightly and smooth with a wallpaper tool. Avoid squeezing paste onto the wallpaper surface.
