Bespoke Wallcoverings

  • What is a Bespoke wallpaper?

Bespoke wallpaper and wallcoverings are at the heart of what we do. Fromental bespoke wallcoverings can be tailored to fit your specific room dimensions, layout and style preferences. Explore our collections.

How do I order a Bespoke Wallcovering?

To order a bespoke wallcovering, simply submit an enquiry through our website or contact your dedicated Fromental sales representative. Our bespoke wallcoverings can be tailored to your room dimensions, layout and design preferences, with options to customise colourways, panel placement and scale.

From your initial design consultation through to final panel plans and layout guidance, our team will support you at every stage of the process.

What is the difference between Bespoke and Shop wallpaper?

Bespoke wallpaper is tailored to your project, with support from a dedicated Fromental account manager throughout the process. Fromental bespoke wallpaper can be customised to suit your room dimensions, panel layout, colour palette and architectural features such as doors, windows and fireplaces.

Shop wallpaper is available in standard sizes, repeats and colourways for immediate online purchase. It offers a quicker and more straightforward ordering process, without the additional design consultation and customisation available through the bespoke service.

Do you offer customisation of Bespoke wallcoverings?

Yes, Fromental Bespoke wallcoverings can be customised in colour, design layout, and finish depending on service level. Please get in touch and we will be happy to help.

Can I order a completely custom Bespoke wallcovering design?

Yes, Fromental offers a Commissioned design service for fully custom wallcoverings. Availability may vary depending on the specifics of your request, including budget and project nature. Please contact us to discuss your needs further.

Can I pair a Fromental Bespoke design with a plain wallcovering?

Yes, Fromental offers coordinating plain wallcoverings to complement our Bespoke designs. This allows the main design to be used in key areas of the room, while other walls continue the same silk or textured finish in a coordinating plain.

Pairing a Bespoke wallcovering with a matching plain can help create a more balanced scheme, particularly in larger spaces or rooms with many architectural features. It also allows the statement design to remain the focal point while maintaining a cohesive finish throughout the room.

  • What is a Tailored service?

Fromental’s Tailored service adapts an existing design from our Bespoke collection to suit the dimensions and layout of your space. Using floorplans, elevations and room measurements, our team carefully adjusts the artwork so that key design elements are positioned beautifully around architectural features such as doors, windows, fireplaces and corners.

We also create a panel plan to ensure panel seams are thoughtfully placed for the most balanced finish possible, helping to avoid important design details being cut or obstructed.

Our recommended solution for achieving the best bespoke wallcovering finish, particularly on embroidered designs. Our Tailored service is available for an additional percentage fee on top of the standard wallcovering cost.

    What is a Standard Run?

A Standard Run is a fixed-height series of panels produced using a standard design repeat. As a non-tailored option, a Standard Run does not allow for customisation to room dimensions, panel placement or architectural features.

Much of our Bespoke range can be offered as a Standard Run, providing a faster lead time and a more straightforward ordering process. Each Standard Run layout can be found on the relevant product page under Product Specifications.

What information is needed for a Standard Run of Bespoke wallcovering?

The wall height, panel width and perimeter are required to determine the panel quantity needed to place a Standard Run order. Please contact your Fromental sales representative and our client services team will assist you.

How much wallpaper do I need?

For an early estimate on a Tailored order, or to find out how many panels you may need for a Standard Run, you can use our Panel Calculator, which can be found on the relevant product page.

If you are planning a Bespoke project, you can also send us your floorplans, elevations and room measurements, and our team will be happy to help determine the quantity required.

How do I measure walls for Bespoke wallcovering?

You can find more information about measuring your space here.

    Will Fromental measure my space?

No, Fromental does not currently provide a measuring service. We recommend hiring a professional installer for accurate measurements.

  • What is Chinoiserie wallpaper?

Chinoiserie wallpaper is a decorative wallcovering style inspired by traditional Chinese art and design. Chinoiserie wallpaper often features birds, flowers, trees and scenic landscapes arranged across a series of decorative panels.

Unlike repeating wallpaper patterns, chinoiserie wallpaper is often designed as a panoramic mural composition. Fromental Chinoiseries are hand-painted or embroidered onto silk and metallic grounds, creating richly detailed luxury wallcoverings.

    What is a mural wallcovering?

Large-scale panoramic and mural wallcoverings are a signature of the Fromental collection and sit at the heart of many of our designs. A mural wallcovering is a large-scale wallpaper design created across a series of panels to form a continuous scene or composition. Unlike a standard repeating wallpaper, mural wallcoverings have a more panoramic feel and often feature landscapes, trees, florals, architectural motifs or abstract geometric forms.

What materials are used in Fromental luxury wallcoverings?

Fromental luxury wallpaper and wallcoverings are crafted using premium materials including silk, grasscloth, metallic grounds and hand-brushed paper. Most designs are further enhanced with hand-painting, embroidery, gilding and other artisanal finishes to create richly textured and highly decorative surfaces.

Can you tell me more about embroidered wallcoverings?

Fromental embroidered wallcoverings add texture and depth using ultra-fine unspun silk threads applied by hand by skilled artisans. Many of our bespoke wallpaper designs can be enhanced with embroidery to create a richer and more decorative finish.

What is the difference between silk and paper wallpapers?

Silk wallcoverings are created using silk mounted onto a backing, giving them a rich texture, subtle sheen and a more luxurious appearance. They are often used for hand-painted or embroidered designs and bring depth, softness and variation to a room.

Paper wallcoverings, such as collaged, antiqued, waxed or gilded finishes, offer a different decorative effect with a flatter surface and a more artisanal character. Depending on the finish, they can have a layered, textured or aged appearance and are often used to create a more contemporary, dramatic or architectural feel.

    Where are Fromental wallcoverings made?

Fromental wallcoverings are designed in London and handcrafted by skilled artisans across a number of specialist workshops. Many of our silk wallcoverings are made in Wuxi, at the heart of China’s silk industry, while hand-embroidery is carried out by artisans in Suzhou, renowned for its embroidery heritage. Our printed wallcoverings are produced by our in-house design team in our London studio.

  • Can a Bespoke Fromental wallcovering be used in commercial spaces?

Yes, many of Fromental’s Bespoke wallcovering designs can be adapted for commercial and hospitality use, including being produced on vinyl substrates where required. Many of our silk wallcoverings are also available with fire-rated specifications, making them suitable for a wide range of commercial interiors.

Fromental wallcoverings can be found in some of the world’s most prestigious hotels, restaurants, members’ clubs and public spaces, where decorative impact and durability are equally important. Our team can advise on the most suitable material, finish and specification for your project.

Can designs be customised for commercial projects?

Yes, we can customise our Bespoke designs for your commercial project upon request. Please get in touch with details about your preferred customisations and we will be happy to help.

Can Fromental silk be used for upholstery or drapery?

Fromental silk wallcoverings are paper-backed as standard and are therefore not typically suitable for upholstery or drapery applications.

If you have a specific project in mind that requires fabric for upholstery, curtains or soft furnishings, please get in touch with our sales team. Depending on the size, scope and budget of the project, we may be able to explore alternative options. Please note that additional customisation fees may apply.

Can Bespoke wallcoverings be used in bathrooms?

Yes, bespoke wallcoverings and wallpapers can be used in bathrooms and powder rooms where there is good ventilation and limited direct water exposure.

For full bathrooms with high humidity and steam, silk may not be the most suitable option, as prolonged moisture can affect the finish over time.

Can Bespoke wallcoverings be used in kitchens?

Yes, though we would recommend avoiding installation near worktops, stoves, and any other areas where there could be splashing, staining or other types of damage.

What fire rating standards do Bespoke products meet?

Fire ratings vary by material, please contact us for details. For commercial and hospitality needs, we can also develop many of our Bespoke designs for printing on Type I and Type II vinyls that meet different fire rating standards.

  • How much does a Bespoke wallcovering cost?

Pricing varies depending on materials, design, and complexity. Contact your Fromental sales representative for more information. With trade access, panel pricing is visible on our product pages.

Is there a minimum order for Bespoke wallcoverings?

Yes, Tailored orders have to meet a Minimum Order Value (MOV) and Standard Run orders require at least two panels. Minimum order values vary across different markets, please contact your Fromental sales representative for the thresholds relevant to your region.

What factors affect pricing for Bespoke wallcoverings?

Materials, craftsmanship, use of embroidery, and service levels can influence the pricing of a Bespoke wallpaper order.

  • What is batch variation in Bespoke Fromental wallcoverings?

Batch variation refers to potential colour differences between production runs. Each batch may vary due to factors like paint mixing, dye-lots and studio conditions. We recommend ordering your desired wallcovering in full before purchasing coordinating paints or other interior items.

What is panel variation in Bespoke wallcoverings?

Panel variation refers to colour differences that may appear between silk wallpaper panels due to the use of handmade and natural materials. Achieving precise colour matching between dye lots and paints is not possible. This variation is a natural characteristic of handcrafted wallcoverings and is considered a desirable feature.

    Are silk wallcoverings durable?

Yes, silk wallcoverings are durable when installed and cared for correctly. Fromental silk wallcoverings are mounted onto a backing for added stability and are suitable for both residential and many commercial interiors.

As with any natural material, silk should be protected from excessive moisture, abrasion and prolonged direct sunlight. Many of our silk wallcoverings are also available with fire-rated specifications for hospitality and commercial projects.

Do Fromental wallcoverings fade over time?

As with all pigments, some fading is likely to occur, particularly with prolonged UV exposure. However, silk wallpapers have existed in historical rooms for hundreds of years and still maintain their beauty.

    Can Bespoke wallpaper be cleaned?

Fromental hand-painted wallpaper options usually cannot be wiped or spot-cleaned, however touch ups by a decorative artist can likely reduce the appearance of damage. Fromental digitally printed paper products can usually withstand a gentle spot-cleaning with a damp cloth or baby wipe. For assistance, please reach out to your Fromental representative.

Can Fromental wallcoverings be removed easily?
