A fresh, clean composition featuring an abundance of butterflies and no birds, Nandina is one of our more contemporary chinoiserie designs. Contrasting tones within the foliage create a strong sense of foreground and background, lending the composition a remarkable feeling of depth. Designed without a ground line, the scene feels less literal and more graphic in character, allowing the eye to move freely across the design. The absence of a base also makes Nandina particularly well suited to interiors with a dado rail or half-height panelling.
