Broadway star turned dynamic interior designer, Adam Hunter, is known these days as taste-maker to LA's elite. Our friendship was cemented during 2020's Covid-19 lockdowns.

The starry night's sky felt particularly poignant at a time when we were craving an escape route, and so the basis of our first creation, Stardust, was formed. The ethereal design evokes a clear night’s sky, strewn with hand-painted and embroidered stars of all shapes and sizes.

The Showhouse at Saag Harbour presented an opportunity to escalate our dreams as Adam was appointed to decorate the theatre room; an ideal location for our debut colourway, Dark Matter, where shifts in light and colour are the main event. Adam's ombré LA-style realised in a hand-painted, embroidered finish enveloped the darkened theatre space, ceiling included.

PANEL WIDTH: 915mm

PANEL HEIGHT: Panels are supplied 300mm higher than specified wall height. Standard panel height is up to 4300mm. Taller panels are available with a surcharge.

Each painted panel begins its life as a length of raw silk which we size with a natural adhesive so that it receives paint without bleeding. We often brush the silk with iridescent pearl washes to add further lustre before backing with traditional rice paper. This forms the extraordinary canvas on which our artists work their magic.

For our embroidery, we use unspun silk floss, which in its un-dyed state is so fine as to be almost invisible to the naked eye. It is dyed by hand in small batches, and our embroiderers have thousands of shades at their disposal. It is not uncommon for an embroiderer to work with six tones of the same colour, which he or she will carefully combine to create subtle shifts in hue.

All our embroidery takes place in Suzhou, China. This remarkable city was the birthplace of silk over 4700 years ago and remains the silk capital of the world.
