Braque in Grasse
The boldest of our three Braque colourways, Grasse mixes greens, yellows, pink and white with metallic gold touches to capture the light.
Taking inspiration from the early works of Cubism, Braque’s tumbling shapes of raw colour are layered with abstract geometric strokes and hand-finished with climbing leaves. This multi-textured design continues our experiments with large-scale collage technique.
We create the backdrop by hand-dying tea paper in various colours before tearing them into large, abstract shapes and carefully arranging them into our composition. These bold, curving geometrics form the basis of the layout with hand-painted ficus flowers adding movement and enhanced definition to this otherwise abstract design.

Our handmade tea paper has a raw quality akin to materials used in the 18th century. The paper is dipped in colour, and subsequently worn and brushed to create an anitqued effect. This forms the extraordinary canvas on which our artists work their magic.
Our artists are masters of traditional Chinese painting and work in teams to meticulously plan out each room before slowly building up the many layers of detail and colour. To achieve intensity and shade, the artist will blend hues, often using two brushes simultaneously.
