Kiku

Edo

Edo’s crisp black foliage creates a strong silhouette against a rich background of Bronze Silk. Blossoms rendered in reds, blues and pinks add to a feeling of luxury.

Kiku draws inspiration from both Japanese art and Europe’s infatuation with form.

  • The British Aesthetic Movement owes much of its inspiration to the art of Japan, and this particular design draws from both Japanese art and Europe’s infatuation with form. A strikingly bold layout, Kiku presents several individual panels, each featuring a crisp, screen-printed trim that works to contain elegantly rendered chrysanthemums. Salt is sprinkled directly onto the wet paint, causing it to disperse in interesting ways – a technique often used in ceramics. Hand-painted in a block style, with no embroidery, Kiku’s leaves and blossoms sit forward of the printed trim, further emphasising the graphic nature of this highly decorative wallcovering.
