Kiku Garden
Hyogo
The Hyogo colourway, rendered in warm bronze tones features a traditional Japanese palette of emerald, jade, teal, off-white and leaves in deep olive green.

Kiku draws inspiration from both Japanese art and Europe’s infatuation with form.
Kiku Garden is an elegant, graphic, and highly decorative wallcovering design inspired by the art of Japan and Europe’s enduring fascination with it. It shares much in common with our Kiku wallcovering-the boldly rendered chrysanthemums, the block colouring-but forgoes the crisp, screen-printed borders of the original. The result is a hugely versatile design that works beautifully in all manner of spaces.
In 2017 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, Fromental co-founder Lizzie Deshayes came across a stunning Japanese-influenced French vase from the 1880s featuring exquisitely rendered flowers. Some months later, while enjoying the Hokusai exhibition “Hokusai: Beyond the Great Wave” at the British Museum, she was introduced to a stunning painting by the artist’s daughter, ŌI.
These two sources of inspiration coalesced in Lizzie’s imagination and the result was Kiku, which has the feel of Oi’s painted screen, but includes a number of chrysanthemums painted in the style of those featured on the French vase.
Kiku Garden is available in 3 colourways on gilded paper with exquisite hand-finished details.
