Our most dramatic Paille colourway, Mingus’s dark background of Graphite Silk plays host to iridescent platinum touches, soft greys, blues and whites, and elegant soft pink undertones.
Evoking the technique of straw marquetry, hand-painted brushstrokes and an ombré effect interplay with silk’s sheen, creating a subtle yet striking illusion of depth.
Inspired by acclaimed designer Jean-Michel Frank’s use of straw marquetry, we have created Paille. The defined, graphic brushstrokes are intricately applied, with the sheen of the silk peering through the negative spaces. This, combined with Paille’s ombré effect, creates an illusion of gradation, visible when light reflects back from walls of straw marquetry.Hand-painted vertical strokes are built up, creating a gradated effect; this forms the shadows and highlights that are integral to the simplistic beauty of this design.
