Prunus draws on the rich history of traditional plum blossom painting. A combination of our ‘unconscious’ painting style – which uses graceful, gestural brushstrokes – and the dazzling lustre of the hand-embroidered silk thread provide it with a dream-like beauty.
Blue Song manages to be at once elegant and bold. Softly rendered branches almost blend into our metallic Strontium Strata wash, the contrasting blue and white blossoms bringing a sense of vitality.
The artwork’s ash frame, with a pickled finish softened by clear oil and lime wax, tempers the vibrancy of the artwork, adding a muted, matte texture.
